Northumberland Attractions
Otterburn
Otterburn is a small village in Northumberland that is probably most famous for the Battle of Otterburn in 1388, when the Scots defeated the English. Today, the village is home to a vibrant community with a fantastic selection of specialist local shops, artists’ galleries, and welcoming pubs.
The area around Otter burn is ideal for walking and rambling, pony trekking, golf, cycling and fishing and leisurely outings of sightseeing around the many castles and country houses in the area.
The village’s location in the heart of the Redesdale Valley offers a broad range of holiday cottages and is a beautiful place to take a step away from it all and relax in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
One of the main attractions in Otterburn is Otterburn Mill, which is over 250 years old and the place where the Royal Family first commissioned the Otterburn Rug. These pram rugs kept Queen Elizabeth wrapped up snug and have been endorsed by the Royals since 1926. The Mill is also home to a museum that contains a vivid history of weaving and wool milling from the local area and houses a retail outlet, nursery, and coffee shop.
By choosing a holiday cottage in Otterburn area, the beautiful Redesdale valley is right on your doorstep and there are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed whilst on your holiday. The Northumberland National park is full of wildlife and undulating landscapes where you can participate in clay pigeon shooting, quad biking, fishing or simply hiking while taking in the stunning surroundings that the area is famous for.
You can visit the site of the old battlefield, take a trip to Hadrian’s wall, which is located nearby, or simply relax in the beautiful countryside and enjoy your holiday cottage.
